David Lawrence: Let me ask you this. If I just go and subscribe to that URL will it show up when I subscribe properly?

Max: Not if you go manual. You have to subscribe through the interface, the directory interface. And if it*s not listed in the directory yet you won't get all info.

David Lawrence: Now I have to go do their work. Back to this radio show that I am doing. 22 minutes past the hour. Hey there yes this portion of the show is Geek Speak. So let*s talk about feeds. The Geek Speak for this hour being a feed URL. xml is used to describe whatever you wanted to describe and we are seeing a lot more people becoming familiar with xml as they realize they can create their own name space. FeedBurner has its own namespace, iTunes Music Store has its own namespace and all you are doing when you are creating XML is in that initial RSS declaration you are saying namespace. xml/ns means xml namespace and you can create whatever tags you want. Obviously you don*t want to be this lone island out there creating tags just for you because nobody else is going to pay any attention. Apple is big enough, FeedBurner is big enough. Other places are big enough. Microsoft is going to create their own namespace within RSS as well as they announced at Nomdex last week. So namespace in xml, this is really where you are beginning to see the power of how versatile xml really is. In html you are limited to what the engines can interpret and the code is described and approved by the W3C. It is a set list of tags. It is a set list of attributes. It is a set list of values for those attributes, a set format, a set syntax and so on. But with xml you can create whatever you want. And so we have talked about xml a number of times but now we are seeing it really put to some very powerful use. The special Apple tags that are in the xml feeds for Podcasts one of which is perfect called itunes:block because iTunes is not only picking up 2.0 RSS feeds for Podcasts. They are also picking up just generic RSS 2.0 feeds that have no enclosures whatsoever. And so if you use the itunes:block it*s supposed to not let iTunes Music Store see it. But it*s still picking up the RSS 2.0 feed from my show which has just the regular radio show block which has no enclosure in it. So you are now seeing what xml and namespaces are all about. So that is this hour*s Geek Speak. There you go. It is 23 minutes past the hour. Let*s get some calls.
