David Lawrence: Oh so you are having problems reading a CD on the DVD drive.

Kenry: Right its noticing, its recognizing that there is a C Drive there however when I put a normal any kind of CD in there whether its software or anything else it starts to sound like it starts to play and then it just kind of, it never gets going. So what I want to do, what I want to know is, what a bad block is, how bad it is, does that mean my computer is about to---.

David Lawrence: Can I use cut to the chase here? I have a feeling that the best thing for you at this point is just to replace the drive because they are so cheap. I mean you can get combination DVD/CD drives if it*s, it*s on a burner, right? It*s not a DVD burner.

Kenry: Yes it is.

David Lawrence: Oh it is okay. So that*s a little bit more expensive than 50 bugs.

Max: But does this one have the tab where you can pull the drive out?

Kenry: No actually I have, it*s fixed in the machine but I also have a floppy module that I can pull out. And I was wondering if I could possibly just put a CD ROM in that one and that would take care of it.

David Lawrence: Well you can certainly do it to do what you want to do. The question is in the long run you want to still be able to play DVDs, burn DVDs and so on. If you, you can go buy a CD drive these days for like 20 bugs. I mean they are really inexpensive but you want to make sure that the one piece of equipment that*s in there now is working properly.

Kenry: Correct.

David Lawrence: Now you have had it for 2 years which I am assuming you didn*t buy the extended warranty so it*s out of service, right? It*s out of warranty service?

Kenry: Right.

David Lawrence: I don*t know I would still you know think about doing the replacement because it*s a whole lot easier and faster and much less of your hard earned time and dollars than it is sitting there trying to figure it out. It*s been 2 years. There maybe something wrong with the mechanism. There maybe something damaged about the driver but if you want to spend all your time doing that great.

Kenry: No, I don*t.

David Lawrence: I think your better bet is to take it to a dealer and have them replace the drive with a replacement drive an official OEM replacement for that SuperDrive, that DVD burner and be done with it.

Kenry: Okay.

David Lawrence: Now the best part is when they install it they have to test it to make sure that it works.

Kenry: Oh that*s nice.
