David Lawrence: Thank you so much for tuning into the show. Twenty six seconds past, seven minutes past, what am I talking, I am looking at these here they don*t make sense to me. Is that only that far into the show, seven minutes past the hour alright, it alright. My name is David Lawrence, thank you so much for tuning in forget all that man behind the curtain stuff, he doesn*t know what he is talking about. I am looking forward to talking to you though, yes I am. And I am looking forward to my next drink as well 180039, Online water and coffee baby 18003966546. We talk about technology, computers, online services, the internet, mp3 files, Macs, PCs, Windows, Mac OS X anything having to do with the net, with technology, PDFs, PDAs, portable cell phones, anything at 180039 online, 180003966546. We also take instant messages; my screen name on America Online is Lawrence. If you are using AOL or AOL instant messenger that*s pretty easy thing to do, just pop me a quick instant message to screen name Lawrence. If you are using iChat, or ICQ you will need to use Lawrence@aol.com but either way that will work. You can also send me E-mail there; we will check some E-mail later on this hour. But the best thing to do once we get an open line is jump in and on the air on the phones at 180039 online. Let*s go right to the phones, we go to Milton first step on line one.
David Lawrence: Hey, Milton. How are you?
Milton: Yeah good thank you.
David Lawrence: How can I help you?
Milton: When I tried to save a file, print a file, I will try to retrieve it later and I can*t, it*s gibberish.
David Lawrence: Well okay first of all let*s backup a second. When you are printing to file what do you think is going on?
Milton: I thought it was going printed to a file name instead of printing to the printer.
David Lawrence: Okay and--
Milton: David on that hard drive instead of going to the printer.
David Lawrence: Right but in what format do you think it*s going to print to that file. Do you think it*s going be readable text, as opposed to--?
Milton: Yeah that*s I would expect.
David Lawrence: No it*s not, it saves depending upon what kind of driver you have setup as your default driver. Usually the gibberish that you see is something called post-script and what you will see as a bunch of slashes and stars and numbers and so on and buried inside there will be your text but what that is, is the actual text that gets sent to the printer that the printer that interprets and prints things in the right size with the right graphics and so that. So what you are seeing is the behind the scenes text that is being sent to the printer now what you can do is you can always load that text later on as a print job without have it open up the application that created it. So for example if you are in Excel and you print to a file that file then can just be simply dragged and dropped on top of your printer and then the system knows okay just send all this information to the printer. Let the printer interpret it and it will print it out and that runs very, very quickly without you having to open up the program and that document again and having all of that text recreate it. No what you are trying do I think is *save as* a text file.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
