It is eleven minutes past the hour, the phone lines fill up very quickly. They are already filled, so jot the number down 180039 online. And we are trying to get to you as quickly as we possibly can. Michael you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence, hello.

Michael: Hi David, thank you for taking my call.

David Lawrence: Yes sir.

Michael: I would use Windows 98 Second Edition and for some reason my defragmenter has stopped working.

David Lawrence: Okay.

Michael: It doesn*t really get started and when I do the scan disk beforehand it gets to like about 86% and I have everything shut down in the background. And then it starts going really crazy and tells me something is writing to the hard drive and I should shut it down and --

David Lawrence: Okay, when you say, you have shut everything down in the background how have you done that?

Michael: I go into the MSCONFIG and I click Select to Startup and shut down all the startup.

David Lawrence: That's not the way to do it.

Michael: Okay.

David Lawrence: The way to do it is to startup in Safe Mode. Just because something is listed or not listed in MSCONFIG doesn*t mean you can turn it off or turn it on. The way to do it is to startup in Safe Mode holding down the F4, the F8 key depending upon your model. And then once you do that absolutely nothing will be running other than the operating system.

Michael: Okay.

David Lawrence: I have a feeling that if you do that again, I have got a second question for you. But I have a feeling once you do that you won*t suffer this problem. Second question is how much room is left on your hard drive?

Michael: Let*s see.

David Lawrence: A very small amount compared to the whole thing?
