How did a man with a failed pest exterminating business in the Houston suburbs, a political reputation as a backbencher in the Texas legislature, and the nickname Hot Tub Tom transform himself into The Hammer, pillar of the religious right and the most powerful man in Congress?
How, without guidance from oil cronies or Karl Rove nor any love from the Bushies, did he win over his Republican competitors and shut everybody else out of the political process altogether?
And what exactly did he do to get himself and a lot of his buddies indicted for criminal conspiracy and money laundering?
In The Hammer Comes Down, Lou Dubose and Jan Reid track DeLay's rise to the pinnacle of power, illuminating his methods, his motives, and the forces in American politics which made him a player. They lay out the schemes, dubious dealings and hubris that just might get The Hammer nailed. And they show why the changes DeLay has spearheaded in the way politics works are likely to last for at least the next quarter-century.

Product Description
A lively, hard-hitting biography of the pro-business, pro-Jesus, anti-government, anti-environment House majority leader who is driving today's congressional agenda.
With The Hammer, Lou Dubose and Jan Reid track the rise of Tom DeLay from owner of a pest control business to unremarkable, and hard-partying, Texas legislator (his nickname was "Hot Tub Tom"), to the congressional pinnacle of power. DeLay is the representative who has called the Environmental Protection Agency "the Gestapo of government," that he drove what he dubbed "The Campaign" to impeach Bill Clinton because Clinton lacked a "biblical worldview," that he didn't serve in Vietnam because too many minorities had signed up leaving no room for people like him, and recently stated any House adoption of a revised bill reinstating tax credits for poor families "ain't going to happen." DeLay is bold--a majority leader with extraordinary powers and extraordinary ambition--and whether he is maneuvering to redistrict Texas congressional seats or flying to Israel to critique the president, he uses that power to shape our politics here and abroad. It is time a proper introduction was made to this man, the only member of the House to keep half a dozen bullwhips on his office wall and a copy of the Ten Commandments on the windowsill.

The candid memoir of one of the most effective, controversial figures in modern politics
Very few people are on the fence about Tom DeLay, who was nicknamed "the Hammer" for his hard-charging, take-no-prisoners style of leadership. Liberals despise him, but for conservatives he?s a hero?one of the architects of the 1994 Republican revolution. For twelve years afterward, he was the driving force of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives.
In this eagerly awaited memoir, DeLay will share fascinating stories from his entire career, starting with his early, raucous days in Texas; his personal conversion to Christ and how that changed his personal and political life; his work with other rebels to sow the seeds of the shocking 1994 takeover; and his ascension to the top leadership in the House. He offers a behind-the-scenes view of the most talked-about stories of the past decade, involving George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, and many others.
DeLay will also discuss his victories against the odds with the slimmest of margins; his passionate dedication to abused and neglected children; and his battle to fend off a ten-year barrage of malicious and frivolous allegations of wrongdoing, which ultimately led to his decision to resign from Congress.
Perhaps most importantly, DeLay will unveil a blueprint agenda for the country?s next group of elected leaders, and show conservatives how to make it a reality.

• Game Notes: Old Spice Classic
by Kelvin Powell Disney?s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. hosted several sporting events during the Thanksgiving holidays. There was the fall league baseball games, a huge soccer tournament and, of course, hoops. The 2008 Old Spice Classic, a college basketball gathering of some of America?s top programs, took place at a facility collectively known as the Milk Center. The facility is adorned with several murals high priced athletes and their famous ?milk mustaches.? Well, I decided to
• They just won't grow up, ever!
Think about it. Bob Woodward helped bring down Richard Nixon. Within his lifetime, the country has seen the rise and fall of Joe McCarthy. J. Edgar Hoover headed the FBI. George Wallace ran for President, twice! Jesse Helms had a long career and powerful career as a United States Senator. Tom DeLay ran the US House of Representatives. We are finishing up eight years of the puppet Presidency of George W. Bush. Throw Lyndon Johnson in there. And what American politicians have gotten deepes
• Ramblings Of An Old Chief
Saturday the Old Chief had the opportunity to attend the Border War showdown at Arrowhead. Several interesting things happened prior to the game? First of all, arriving early I had the opportunity to tour the complex. I was surprised by the extent and complexity of the remodel. During the tour, I was able to look at models of the future Arrowhead ? sweet. It will improve the quality of fan experience by leaps and bounds. Next, after the tour I ran into the man himself ? Carl Peterson. He was
• UK must go on ?fossil fuel diet? to meet CO2 targets
The UK must cut greenhouse gas emissions by a fifth by 2020 to tackle climate change and meet longer-term goals of cutting emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, the government?s Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has warned. More importantly the CCC?s report, Building a Low-Carbon Economy, says the aggressive emissions targets can be achieved at a cost of less than one per cent of GDP in 2020 without harming the UK economy. The CCC says the UK governemnt must commit unilaterally to reduce CO2 emis
• The Media?s Obsession With ?Team Of Rivals?
President-elect Obama is from Illinois and he said he was reading ?Team Of Rivals? and that is all it took for the media - going on almost three weeks now - to go nuts with the meme. It?s not even true! Sen. Clinton threw back and forth campaign rhetoric but in substance their foreign policy was about a quarter of an inch away from each other. The people nominated by Obama range from centrist to liberal. They all support his agenda. This isn?t him nominating John McCain and Tom DeLay to cabinet

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
