David Lawrence: How are you?

John: I am very well, thank you. I am a trainer and I like to capture video clips off the Internet and burn them to DVD and use them in my training. However it seems to be hit & miss. Sometimes I can do 18.08 save them other times it doesn*t. I usually do that right click Save Capture or Save Target As sometimes it allows me and sometimes it doesn*t especially it seems to be with news websites.

David Lawrence: So the fact that the Right Click that comes up *Save Target As* that tells me that you are on a Windows machine.

John: Correct.

David Lawrence: And if you are doing that, then probably the things that you can pick up on are Windows Media Videos pretty much exclusively. If you have QuickTime installed in your machine you may be able to put those on, a DVD as well. But often times when they are using things like Real, or they are using things like Flash, having converted to Flash you can*t do that. Is that correct?

John: Yes, yes and sometimes it doesn*t even it won*t even pop up.

David Lawrence: So what's question?

John: How am I able to download whether it is a news clip or --

David Lawrence: That's entirely, entirely up to the purveyor of the website at which you are. If they choose

John: Okay they might not allow it.

David Lawrence: Right, if they choose to make it available to you in raw Windows Media format or raw QuickTime format then there are tools out there that will allow you to convert those to movies that can*t be burned to DVD. As I said with other formats that is not the case. And there are, there are other tools out there, my bigger question is as law enforcement trainer certainly one of the things that you train is in all things follow the law yes?

John: Correct.

David Lawrence: So are you getting permission for Copyright laws in this country from the people from whom you take those ones you can grab to be used in your training.

John: Right it*s all there is no money being exchanged, I am not being paid for any of these.
