David Lawrence: Now what is IVR? Interactive Voice Response. In telephone systems Interactive Voice Response or IVR is a computerized system that allows a person typically the phone caller to select options from a voice manual and otherwise interface with a computer system you know as press 1 for service, press 2 for sales blah-blah-blah. The pre-recorded voice prompts tell the person to press a number on a telephone to select certain options or speak simple answers such as yes or no or their account numbers in answer to the voice prompts. The latest systems use natural speech language recognition to interpret the questions that the person wants answered in. Most of you who are long term listeners of this show know that I am among the most heard voices on IVR systems because I am the voice of America Online*s IVR systems as well as all of the other Time Warner Systems that they manage. I am the person that you hear on hold talking to you in recorded fashion before you get to a live person. So usually I am the one you ticked off by the time you get to the actual customer service rep. But that's what an IVR system is. And there are a lot of people who don*t like IVR systems but man they should save a lot of time and money when they are designed well and they provide people with the answers that they need. 22 minutes past the hour that is this hour*s Geek Speak IVR Interactive Voice Response.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
