David Lawrence: Right much like people used to do with LPs they would make cassette copies and then you know put the LPs in their jackets nicely straight up and down so that the LPs don*t get all scratched up. And then they listen to the cassettes. That*s called a copy of convenience. And it*s actually to do that with audio you are right to do that, it is protected by a law called Audio Home Recording Act of 1993/1994 seeing that in 1993. But this was in particular due to the fact that you could do digital copies and the copyright act didn*t contemplate digital copies and so on. No such luck with visuals attached to it although there is, there are lawyers who would argue that the AHRA should not be limited to audio it should be any sort of content that you want to buy the original of, keep it in good shape and make a copy of convenience that you wouldn*t be sharing with anybody outside your family. And I think that*s a reasonable thing to do, problem is people started sharing movies and music and stuff with KaZaa and stuck their chins out and said we are not going to stop until you make us. And so the courts made them. And now any manufacturer that wants to create software that makes it easy for you to do what you just described is unfortunately subject to the state of affairs that we are in today. Hopefully that will change, hopefully that will change over time. But right now it*s and you can't really blame the people that made Lord of the Rings, because if I, here*s what I would do. I would go and I would check on eBay and see if there is somebody who*s watched it and they are done with it and they want to sell it for 30-40 bucks. And use that as the ones that you give the kids put the ones that you purchased up on the shelf you know it*s your pristine copy and so on. And maybe in a couple of years there will be technology that is okayed by the people that create the content, okayed by the laws and you can actually create a backup from it. But for right now the best thing to do is to buy a second copy of the actual stuff itself and not something that has been burned using illegal software because that*s on eBay as well.

Rob: Alright.

David Lawrence: Alright.

Rob: Alright well thanks a lot.

David Lawrence: I wish I had better news for you but that*s where we are. And it is because of people who made a point of violating the law over and over and over again not respecting the Intellectual Property Rights of people far more creative than they. People who put their blood, sweat, tears, time, artistic efforts into actually creating something rather than stealing something, those are the peoples to whom respect needs to be paid and paid in great amounts. Your favorite musicians, your favorite film makers, your favorite actors these are the people along with all the crafts people that go with it, the producers, the grips, the lighting people, the costumers, the makeup people these people suffer as well when a movie doesn*t do as well as it might have because it gets pirated on the Internet. I am, it was funny when East Coast Bob called up and was giving me a razerly on the hour this is exactly why there is no way you will ever find instructions on how to use KaZaa or Morpheus or BitTorrent or Grokster on my website. Respect Intellectual Property Rights, back in a moment.
