Rob: Well I went out and bought the Lord of the Rings, trilogy set, the deluxe version all that business, which brought me like a $100.
David Lawrence: Right.
Rob: And I also just got a computer recently that will burn DVDs and I wanted to back them up just to protect them from just my kids actually from scratching them up as they have done in the past.
David Lawrence: Ah here*s a good idea put them on a shelf high enough for your kids not to grab them.
Rob: I hear it.
David Lawrence: So what*s your question?
Rob: Well I put it in, tried to burn it and it says that it was protected.
David Lawrence: Correct.
Rob: And I was just wondering if there was any way to get around that if that*s *
David Lawrence: If that*s not what they want you to do then no there is no way to get around it I mean you can go on the web and you can find software that will do what you want to do but that software has been held by the courts to be illegal and to be sold is illegal. And so it*s a choice that you make and hopefully you set a good example for your kids and you follow the law. Personally I would rather work within the system and create a way for the law to be available for people to make a backup of convenience that*s within the family doesn*t make it available for people to use out on the web to open up share. See here*s the problem people have over stayed their welcome on empty promises and arguments about why the RIAA and the MPAA are wrong about Copyright Protection and the courts have found that when you steal and you become bad actors you ruin it for everybody else, and that*s what*s happened.
Rob: Right.
David Lawrence: People have taken advantage of the ability to use their computers and the Internet to both copy and distribute copyrighted material. And by doing so they have made it impossible for companies to put out software for legitimate backup purposes like you are talking about. Now the question is what would you have done with those discs, the actually trilogy discs?
Rob: I would have put those away and use the backup on.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
