David Lawrence: Alright the Geek Speak phrase for this hour we take a tech term and turn it into plain English before your very eyes is peer-to-peer. Now there have been some controversy over how I describe peer-to-peer. There are some people who say every Local Area Network is peer-to-peer. When in today*s usage of peer-to-peer, the phrase peer-to-peer is a very specific type of network and those are networks that allow the sharing of data between drives on a seat by seat basis and we will get into that just a second. This portion of the show is powered by www.godaddy.com. I use www.godaddy.com I loved them I can*t recommend them highly enough. We have done a Podcast with them called Radio GoDaddy we put all of our domains over at Radio GoDaddy and we did so because they just rock their prices are the least expensive around. You can get a domain for just $3.99 if you buy any other product there and I can save you an additional 10% on your order. Here is the code that you need under the promo code when you check out just use Save Ten and you can give this to a friend if you want Save Ten will save you 10% on anything you purchase at www.godaddy.com. Make your name with www.godaddy.com. And Radio GoDaddy is on the air as well anytime you want it. The Podcast is available over at www.radiogoddady.com Bob Parson your host with the most and as you go and check that out. Now peer-to-peer, a peer-to-peer computer network is a network that relies on computing power at both ends of the network rather than centralized in the network itself and in today*s society we usually hear peer-to-peer networks involved with the availability, the downloading, the dissemination of illegal copies of Copyrighted Works. It is the nature of the state of the art of the Internet today. That when you hear the phrase peer-to-peer you are often using it with regard to sites like KaZaA and Morpheus and Grokster. In fact the distributed computing of political action committee that is now using those words just oppose to p-to-p pro or pro p-to-p, which was their original phrase because the phrase p-to-p or peer-to-peer got such a negative connotation. It*s usually associated with the serial copyright violation of intellectual property and that*s unfortunate but that*s the way it is. Peer-to-peer is usually used when it comes to file transfer networks, I would not use peer-to-peer to describe Local Area Networks ever even though they are I wouldn*t use it because its confusing to people, peer-to-peer has a meaning today and that meaning is the availability of a computer here and a computer in Norway to share data because both ends have given the go ahead to do so and in between some sort of indexing software that says hey, this stuff is available on this computer if you want it, so there you go. Now you should avoid using peer-to-peer networks in all cases. There is no excuse to steal music and steal movies anymore. It*s so cheap to go to iTunes, it*s so cheap to go to MSN Music or Sony Connect or any of the other legitimate music sale sites. It is clearly illegal to share movies via peer-to-peer in fact a guy in Missouri there you go, 19-year-old guy just got arrested for sharing bewitched by going into the fetters and doing videotapes on it and putting up on peer-to-peer network, that*s the problem peer-to-peer has this negative connotation and you should avoid them if you can. The first peer-to-peer network, longtime ago Napster, that*s where it all started so. 24 minutes pass the hour peer-to-peer that is this hour is Geek Speak and it is brought to you by the Fantasy Music League, if you like fantasy sports and you like music, you will love the Fantasy Music League you could win your share of $25,000 in cash and prizes by creating a fantasy record label and putting your favorite artist on it the ones you think will make you the most music. David Lawrence: 25 minutes past the hour it is online tonight my name is David Lawrence and Gary you wanted to join the cacophony on the sales stuff.
Gary: Hi David a lot of the truck stops have equipment produced by Wilson Electronics and this equipment will take the 500 milliwatt signal that comes out of the cell phones and it boosted up to 3 watts.
David Lawrence: Right and that is illegal to do.
Gary: Well I don*t know.
David Lawrence: You know it is.
Gary: So it*s not quite market, it*s not gray market.
David Lawrence: Well of course that makes illegal then right it*s illegal.
Gary: One taking out of and working --

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
