Dock: Yeah I mean this and I am very serious here I really don*t understand a lot of this stuff and for me no big deal I really don*t see why the problem anyway. I mean may be I sound like a dinosaur and I know I am but several computer all do things and you can do things and talk with people all over the world, who care to be don*t needed, why use it.

David Lawrence: That*s a great, you are absolutely right if you don*t need it why use it.

Dock: I mean it just bothers me that you know especially in the school they want to jam this stuff down these kids though like Internet is going to be the world of tomorrow, and the kid will be.

David Lawrence: Okay now stop, stop for a second hold on Dock that*s now you have gone and made a left hand turn for you at your point in your life technology doesn*t matter, but every job that you take coming out of college, coming out of high school whether its plumbing, welding, carpentry, working in forest where you think, oh there is no way there is computer is involved there. Every job including banking, lawyering, doctoring, you know the typical office jobs all of them require heavy skills in technology, you may not need it but the kids in school today will be at a severe disadvantage if they don*t have terrific skills in technology, so.

Dock: But the kids that I have seen in the schools that are supposedly learning computers they don*t want it because its going to do any job thing for all the days so they can play a music song, and they can talk to their neighbors --

David Lawrence: Wait a minute, Dock, Dock, Dock, Dock did you take math thinking that it will help you get a better engineering job, of course not. No kid knows why what he or she is being taught, why it*s going to be important later in their life, no kid knows that. I certainly didn*t have any appreciation as to why you know social studies and history and all that. When I first got started would matter at all but now that I am a talk show host I know exactly why it matters. And the fact is they might not be able to recognize it now and they maybe using technology for entertainment as well as instruction, but please do not minimize and do not proselytize to kids not to learn technology.

Dock: Oh I don*t know that.

David Lawrence: It would put them at a severe disadvantage and I hope that you understand the difference the huge chasm between what kids are required to know even getting into junior high school and high school and you may not see what they use computers for, you may just see the entertainment side of things you may just see the you know the way they hack and so on and that may turn you off I can completely understand that. You are talking to someone who is very, very clear about where I stand on piracy and so forth but try not to minimize the skill set that is required to do those sorts of things to be able to engage in E-mail, to be able to engage in web building, to be able to engage in many of the skills. Frankly 20 years from now may not be necessary but there will be other skills regarding technology long after you and I are gone that today*s kid, it would be like saying back in the 1880s why don*t this people know how to drive. Why don*t get on a horse, if you don*t even know how to drive you know and then look what happen later on if we came and required skill so I think that for you its you know live your life the way you want but for today*s kid it is a drop that requirement that they understand technology and understand it very well and I appreciate your call, back in a moment.
