David Lawrence: Abbas how can I help you?

Abbas: Yes thanks for taking my call. I had a question about protecting your domain name that you own. A friend of mine had a business name and it lapsed and someone bought it from under her. And basically turned around and tried to extort thousand of dollars to get her domain name back.

David Lawrence: Yeah.

Abbas: And the thing is that it was a dot com name so she register to the .net one. The problem is you know she had yellow book ads all kinds of ads with the .com and because she didn*t have the money to come up with it and she refuse to pay it. They went and actually put you know in inappropriate site up and replaced it and she lost a lot of business on it.

David Lawrence: So here*s the answer, the answer is always maintain an E-mail address that you know will get notices from your ISP or whoever oh I am sorry from your domain registrar. Always maintain an E-mail address and listen to those things and renew them when it comes time to do it. Now if you register your domains over at GoDaddy they warn you a million times as your domain is about to expire. So there is really no excuse unless you have changed your E-mail address you know on the one that you register. This is an important thing this is like knowing how to get to the post office. So that*s one thing and you can get automatic renewal setup with GoDaddy as well so that every year your credit card is just charged the additional $4 or $8 or whatever it is.

Abbas: Yes.

David Lawrence: Yeah but in terms of protecting --

Abbas: Yeah since then she has done that and then we just wanted to know if there was if there was any actual services or any particular at law services firm that could actually you know go after somebody that does that.
