Previously: Greylisting >>
Next: David Lawrence's Personal Netcast - 7/9/2005 >>

David Lawrence: Now what that effectively does is it really slow down your inbound E-mail all that much, right. You probably wouldn*t even notice given the fact that you check E-mail you know even 4 or 5 times a day. You are not going to notice 20 second inbound delay because it will be in your inbox, you won't know that it was a 20 second delay. But for spammers you are gone, you are out of there, no more, so this is a great thing and it*s called Greylisting.

John: And it*s all very informative that you know we are pretty much simple and here and it*s like wait a minute these are the two biggest guys, if I send you an E-mail within 10-20 minutes, you should get it.

David Lawrence: Well that*s not the case.

John: And it still you know--

David Lawrence: It*s not the case because both of them are also the largest targets because they have the most users, they are the largest targets for spam and they have the most inbound filtering and delaying of any of the ISPs.

John: Yeah and it*s just really disconcerting because there are E-mails that I know I have spoken to people and I have never gotten and they have never gotten and you know you have it in your outbox and then you resend it and maybe they get it. And you know anytime I am communicating with people*s work accounts or my own work account, you know that E-mail goes through instantly.

David Lawrence: Right and that*s sort of word of warning you should not be using Hotmail unless you are using their premium service not their free service, you shouldn*t be using Hotmail for business purposes.

John: No I am not doing that, I am just saying but--

David Lawrence: I know, I understand.

John: But Hotmail free service is that kind of downgraded version of it.
