David Lawrence: Alright I appreciate the call very much, DTMF tone there you go, oh you know we never talked about, we never talked about the tones at WGN. Let me do that real briefly here because I had a couple of people that send me E-mail during the break going oh my gosh you are actually going, you are going to talk about that, that*s very cool, alright. So on the broadcast engineer list maybe 3 days ago something like that, there was a question about what the tones are at the top of our Chicago affiliates hours every hour on WGN and you know all these engineers want to know how they did it. You know one guy said oh that*s phone tones it*s DTMF and it*s not actually. It*s 3 tones in order and the frequencies are very exact 880 Hz, 1100 HZ and 8.73 Hz and this is cycles per second more or less and 1300 HZ and 18.51 Hz. Now those of you that know music theory will recognize 880 as a multiple of 440, which is middle A right. So it*s A natural above middle C, C# and E natural all in the second octave above little C. So that*s it, it*s A C# E that*s what the tones at top of the hour at WGN. I love stuff like that I love stuff like that, alright we will take a break we will comeback it*s Online Tonight I am David Lawrence.

Net Music Countdown, Billie Joe Armstrong sat down with fans for a live discussion in New York this week and sponsored by the New York Times and their Arts and Leisure Section that was called Walking a Contradiction, the event was moderated by John Pareles, he writes for the Times. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, this is Green Day at #9 this week on the Net Music Countdown.

David Lawrence: Thank you so much. 26 minutes before the hour. My name is David Lawrence and I appreciate your tuning into the show. If you miss any part of the show, there is a couple of things you can do, you can either grab the transcript when it comes out a few days after the show is over, which you can download for a fee or you can read online for free. Then you can also listen to the audio by grabbing the audio that*s very inexpensive it*s 25 cents an hour, 50 cents for the show. You can buy a whole month, which includes the weeknight shows that you may have missed for 7 bucks and the whole year is just $60 and that*s 200 some odd shows including ones that you may not hear on your local station. The Podcast is free and it kind of tells you what we do on the show every night, you can hook up with that by going to www.onlinetonight.com and clicking on the Podcast link. If you have an external audio device or if you want to restore it on your computer, you can grab free software that will automatically catch it for you, we will talk about that little bit later on the show. And then you can download the audio at your leisure so there are number of ways you can sort of catch up there. We get E-mail. Kevin Weaver writes David I would like to listen to webcasts with iTunes on my Macintosh. I have a dialup connection so I have to select programs that are streaming under 56 Kbits per second, would you please explain why webcasts at a higher speed make iTunes stop and recache? I would think that lower speeds would cause this and a higher speed would just bog the system down to where it would miss information being transmitted.
