25 minutes after the hour lets go to Bernie at 180039 online hello Bernie.

Bernie: Hello.

David Lawrence: Hi there.

Bernie: I have got a home network setup with a wireless router, one desktop and two laptops all XP machines. I just add a G 20 Mac and I have got it hooked up online you know wider to the wireless router. And you know it works fine but I am having trouble getting at home a network that I have with the other two laptops and the desktop where I can share printer and a couple of network drives.

David Lawrence: Well hold on one second, what operating system is it running?

Bernie: G20, it is of 10.

David Lawrence: It is running 10, which version?

Bernie: Yeah, well I can*t remember exactly whether it*s 10, I think it*s Panther.

David Lawrence: Okay so have you gone to the Go menu and then chose in computer and look for the other servers based on IP address, is it that you don*t know how to do it or you have tried it and it doesn*t work?

Bernie: Well I don*t know how to do it.

David Lawrence: Okay so here is the thing Macintosh with Mac OS X does not require any third party software to share a Windows drive on some other machine. It uses something called Samba to get to those drives and all you really do is you have to go to is the Go menu, which is in the finder, just go and then choose connect to server, which is the last item. Then when you connect to that server or when you see your network you will see all the different drives that have been made available through Windows sharing, a share that you have opened up and you can just grab any one of those. Now most of them will have IP addresses associated with them so you can grab via IP address using your wireless router or you can just grab based on the name that you have given it*s all via TCP/IP but Samba is built-in to Panther and it*s very easy to do, you just have to know how to do it.

Bernie: Okay.

David Lawrence: Does that make sense?

Bernie: Absolutely, it*s great.
