David Lawrence: Okay. So AT&T has a countrywide coverage zone for their high-speed cell based Internet connections. And if you can get a cell call or cell signal, you can use their system for that. All you have to do is contact Alltel and ask them what their data options are and what you need to use your cell phone as a way to get on the Internet with your laptop. And they will usually provide you with a little PC card that fits into the slot, the PC slot on your laptop and then plugs into your phone. Another option if you have the money for it is something like you know the MoBISat which is a satellite system that actually gets installed on your tractor and when you want to go online you sort of raise this satellite dish and you lock into the signal. And it*s good on the download not so good on the upload but it certainly has high speed on the download and you can check it. It*s lot more expensive though than the data because the upfront cost are like $5000-$6000 to install the dish and a fold away a case. And then there is also a more and more cities and again this is the cell company and the land local Aurbach or regional operating company, are doing what is called wide area WiFi. And basically instead of covering a building or a park or a library with WiFi like you know a truck stop. The whole truck stop would be covered. They are actually covering the entire metropolitan area. And so a good place to check on that is at the Verizon site at the SBC site and see what cities are covered, if it*s part of your dedicated run which for those of you who are in trucking, he goes to the same places all the time rather than you know saying okay I am going to grab a load here, it will take me to Abilene. I will grab a load in Abilene it will take me to Oklahoma city. I will grab a load there and it will take me to Chicago. He is actually running back and forth just like my dad did when he was alive with Carter & Company always from one central warehouse or depot to another and back. Is that right?
Larry: Right.
David Lawrence: Yeah so you can do that and I am getting instant messages from people who are telling me that in Chicago Verizon is up with that. That SBC is doing it in several cities on the West Coast and they are actually advertising it on television. They didn't make any announcements per se to the industry. I saw a commercial, I am like lost or something. I was watching the other night and all of a sudden there is this cool like computer generated graphic of the entire city being enclosed in this bubble saying wouldn't it be cool if you could take your laptop and go WiFi anywhere in the city. Well we are bringing that to you solely but surely and so that's another option for you to check out alright.
Larry: Oh that's cool. I was kind of looking at the D Way
David Lawrence: The what?
Larry: The Direct Way.
David Lawrence: Direct Way sure that's satellite and you know the problem area is that if you jury-rig satellite system with Direct Way you know you got to put it on the platform, a plywood platform or some nonsense. It really is worth the extra money to have it installed properly so that it can automatically zone in on the signal and give you the best possible throughput with that more expensive system. But you know if that's what you want to go for that*s certainly an option.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
