Alright let*s go the phones Doan you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence hello sir.

Doan: Hi David, got a problem. I switched the data from a 10 year old computer with Window 95 and transferred it to a new computer with XP. The icons through the data appear on the new computer but I can*t open the files.

David Lawrence: Okay.

Doan: The old port, the port in the old computer just had a floppy drive.

David Lawrence: Right.

Doan: That*s all it had and the program is called Jed I am doing this for a friend. Knows less than me about these things.

David Lawrence: Well I think, I think the problem is that their data files that are of a specific type that there is no application on your XP machine that can open them. I don*t know what Jed is, what is it?

Doan: Well it*s like a 10 year old spreadsheet type thing it*s a strictly programmed for people that are in that.

David Lawrence: Okay then what I would do if those files are able to be read by Excel, is I would open Excel and I would then use the File menu and the Open command to try and open any of those documents.

Doan: Okay.

David Lawrence: That*s the only way you are going to get them in. Because they are not, they are not associated with any application right now they are just simply documents sitting on your hard drive.

Doan: Right.

David Lawrence: And because they don*t have extensions associated with them there is nothing about them that is readable by, that*s how Windows works as the extension defines which application it*s going to go to.

Doan: I don*t have the install this old Jed program on the new computer then.

David Lawrence: It probably won*t even run on the new computer.

Doan: Okay.

David Lawrence: So yeah I would try and open it up in Excel and otherwise I would contact the manufacturer and see if they have got any solution for you.

Doan: Oh they will probably out of business by now.
