David Lawrence: Well you should, you should have a static IP address for a number of different reasons plus you need to understand that a VPN is designed to be secure. And so to that end it maybe that you can*t use a VPN from work. If your work IT department has prevented that from happening but usually they encourage that as opposed to the other way around.
Cory: Well this is certainly home use it*s not I don't have an ID to IT department I am working with this is my home desktop unit that I want to access from on a road with my notebook.
David Lawrence: Alright so that's pretty straight forward. So the issue is then one of when you get an IP address on the road whether or not you can then make sure that your home machine accepts that IP address as a trusted IP address. And the way it does that is through authenticating when you type in a username and password.
Cory: Right.
David Lawrence: So what I would do is because unless I was sitting down in front of your machine and was actually going through all of your settings there is really nothing I can do on the radio to help you with this. You have started down the path. But what I would do is I would Google Linksys VPN Setup and see what people are doing to make it easy. There is probably a tutorial online that is better than Linksys, the Linksys thing I always do that as well. I just got an instant message that says use GoToMyPC. And I am not going to take that advice because frankly you spent the money on a VPN Router you should be able to use it.
Cory: Well and I was using that service but at $20 a month I can easily pay for the VPN Router a lot faster. And I think it was great service I just don't want to spend $20.
David Lawrence: I completely understand. And we are friends with the people at Go To My PC. We love their service but yes, you spent the money on a VPN router from Linksys it works fine for millions of people. And you should be able to set it up so that's my admonition to you. That's what I would do. 180039 online is our telephone number 18003966546, John you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence, hello sir.
John: Hi David how are you?
David Lawrence: I am good how can I help you?
John: Oh you got a great show there.
David Lawrence: I appreciate that I think so too, so does my mom.
John: About a month and half ago I downloaded my Norton I mean it*s not downloaded but updated my Norton Antivirus.
David Lawrence: Right.
John: And it came up with an extra box which I never saw before and I had it for years. And it said I needed to install this other thing and so I went and I did it. And it ended up giving system driver okay.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
