David Lawrence: Okay good well that*s good. I would get a stand alone piece of Antivirus software and have it go through your machine. The one thing that the Panda Antivirus the online sweep can*t do is it can*t check for BIOS super virus or BIOS changes. Because you have already started up your machine. So I would you know when you decide what Antivirus software you want and if it*s Panda then that*s great. I would also get the three Antivirus software that I mentioned last hour and that would be Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Microsoft Antivirus, if you are running XP. And run those as well it may just be damaged or compromised or you know in some way faulted BIOS and you may need to upgrade your BIOS. But if everything is working okay I wouldn*t mess with it. It may just be a symptom of the way your computer powers on and self tests. So if nothing is going on with your computer it isn*t running slowly it might be safe to ignore. But obviously it*s bothering you every time you start up so I would run a bit more intense scanning tool on it.

Gordon: And what does BIOS mean.

David Lawrence: The BIOS is the initial operating system that starts up your machine. It is sort of the boot strap of the basic input output system is what that means. But it*s a little tiny bit of code to get the rest of the machine going. It*s sort of like in the old days when you would spray primer into a carburetor to get an engine going or on a little plain you would get an engine going by just spraying it with little gasoline to sort of get it going or crank up an old car. That*s what the BIOS is all about. It gets things going it starts things up it checks the RAM and it checks the hard drive and it checks to make sure nothing weird happen the last time it shut down. So it*s the basic boot strap that*s gets your machine going, all ready.

Gordon: Okay bye David.

Now what is a virus, we just spoke about viruses moments ago and perhaps maybe that*s why the gentleman was having a problem with his BIOS saying the update isn't occurring properly because of a malformed virus attacking his basic input/output system. Viruses in general are programs or pieces of code which aim to alter your system, most often in a negative way. And also to spread themselves to other systems if they can, infecting a drive, infecting a disc, sending themselves out over the Internet those are called Worms, laying and wait
