It just snaps right on to the top and it works like a charm. One of the best pieces of gear I bought for the iPod, I have got the iPod photo and well iTrip just sits right on top of it. It*s about three quarters of an inch around just like the iPod is and it*s just beautiful, it*s brilliant. Alright, where are we? Oh Geek Speak yes. The Geek Speak for this hour is Packet Sniffer. Oh Packet Sniffer is nasty stuff. A Packet Sniffer is software that can watch traffic on a network. Watch traffic going back and forth, the packets of data going back and forth on a network. Now Packet Sniffers are often used by people who work in big company installations to look at the integrity of the data stream. How much error correction is going on, how many collisions are happening, how fast the network is, how it*s interfacing with other networks and so on. A Packet Sniffers can also be used by people who have less than honorable intentions for your network. So sometimes people would put Packet Sniffing Software in promiscuous mode, promiscuous mode. What is that all about? My goodness there is a packet sniffer right now that is in promiscuous. Good God. Alright stop kissing, stop kissing the LAN adapter that's not very nice. That listens to all traffic every thing and can pick up different patterns like user ids, passwords, security codes so on. So that's what a Packet Sniffers is all about and sometimes Packet Sniffers get installed on network specifically for the purpose of attacking those networks. Usually they are tool that the network administrator uses to make sure everything is lean and mean but sometimes it*s used not for that, so.
