David Lawrence: Thank you so much for tuning into the show its 24 past the hour lets go right back to the phone at 180039 online. And we go to I am going to say Robert. Robert you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence hello sir.

Robert: How are you doing David? I have a laptop a Compaq Presario 3000 and I believe it has like a 194 onboard memory and I brought a 1 Gig chip that was supposed to be for that machine. I installed this into the place that you install it and the machine like locked up. It didn't even go to the boot area and I pulled the chip out and rebooted and booted up fine.

David Lawrence: Well then that tells you right away that whoever told you that, that particular chip was correct was incorrect or you simply grabbed the wrong chip or they sent you the wrong chip after you ordered the right one. It could also be damaged RAM chip but it is you will go take it back and get a new one and confirm that it is exactly the right one for that particular device. Now, the other thing is you want to be sure that you balance your chips check to make sure your machine will take just one new, one Gig chip as opposed to 2,5,12s. And when you say you have what onboard 192?

Robert: Well it*s located at the, the flap that you put the chip in is only room for 1 chip.

David Lawrence: I understand.

Robert: So I don*t know if it has--, if its onboard memory or what but when I boot up the machine and do a run in the system to see how much memory I have I think it has the like 194 or some like that or 196 or 190*like that.

David Lawrence: I am going to suggest that perhaps you are sure it*s the 190 because usually chips are 64, 128, 256 you know 512 like that. And or multiples there are so it could be a 128 and a 64 but that's a 180 something no I am sorry its 194 I don*t know but that's just seems very odd to me that they would use too small tiny chips plus do you have onboard video or do you have a video card that*s separate?

Robert: Oh it*s onboard video.

David Lawrence: So that's why the odd number because what you are getting is some of that video being given on to use for the video card. That's why it is on the even multiple of 128.

Robert: Is there a way they like disable that memory and?

David Lawrence: No, no, no that's your main memory so no you can't disable it.
