Last Thursday, ADVENTURE magazine held the third annual Best of Adventure awards ceremony at the National Geographic Society headquarters, sponsored by South Africa Tourism. The event honored the achievements and gear featured in the December 2008/January 2008 issue (on newsstands now). Rob Gauntlett and James Hooper, the 21-year-olds who skied, sailed, and cycled from geomagnetic pole-to-pole, were named this year's Adventurers of the Year. Hall of Fame awardee Rick Ridgeway captivated the aud • Adventure Names 2009 Adventurers of the Year!
National Geographic Adventure has announced this year's recipeients of the Adventurer of the Year Awards, with some familiar names and faces earning much deserved praise. The awards are broken down into a variety of categories, with the top honor for "Adventurers of the Year" going to Rob Gauntlett & James Hooper, who completed an epic 26,000 mile journey that began with them skiing and dogsledding somewhere north of Greenland, and the Magnetic North Pole, and ended with them in Antarctica mor • Gretchen Bleiler is not a lesbian - yet.
I have high hopes for this girl. She?s a champion snowboarder (won the X-games gold - twice), and won a silver in the Olympics. Now, if I can only convince her that I make really, really good hot chocolate after so much time in the cold? Okay, it?s lame. I know. I have zero ?game.?
