Dan: Alright now I am new to placing site on the Internet and I generated a Flash file an hwf and I streamed it. Then one day I was using Firefox and I realized that I could copy it and save it to my hard drive.

David Lawrence: That*s correct.

Dan: And I since then switched to a Flash Pro okay and now and it has a and so now I am streaming a Flash file but I am using a Progressive Player okay and it seems to have stopped me from at least being able to save it to hard drive. So how do I save, how do I prevent other people from saving my stuff like that?

David Lawrence: You are so close to the phone I was trying to answer you, you didn*t even hear me.

Dan: Okay.

David Lawrence: What you have done is you have embedded the swiff file now and so that*s how you prevent people from downloading it as you embed it or you put it in a directory that*s hid and you make an alternative reference to it. But embedding the swiff file is the way to do it. Just having the swiff file out there is you know just like having an mp3 file out there. You can just right click on it and download it. What I would avoid doing is using any of these java scripts that some sites use to prevent you from copying and pasting you know pictures. You know just, are you concerned that people are going to download your swiff file and do what with it?

Dan: I don*t know. I was just you know I have embedded my logo and stuff in it.

David Lawrence: So?

Dan: And I don*t ---

David Lawrence: Here*s my question. What does it matter whether somebody runs your swiff file on your web server, on your site or on their hard drive?

Dan: I guess it*s none. I just don*t, I was kind of concerned when I was able to save the file.

David Lawrence: Right but you are only, all you are doing is saving the same swiff file that you are running on the server. Here*s my point. It might behoove you to do this because if you are getting a lot of traffic, if people are hanging out and playing the flash file on your server you are paying for that bandwidth. If they download it to their hard drive, now there are plenty of good reasons why you don*t want them to do that. Maybe there is something on your hard drive where there is advertising involved and if they are doing the swiff file or they are doing the flash game while they are looking at advertising and you want them to click on it. You don*t want them to do it on the actual hard drive itself I can completely understand that. But if it*s simply I mean what*s the file about? Can you tell me on the air?

Dan: It*s a 3D animation.

David Lawrence: Okay so does it matter whether they play it off their hard drive or on the website?

Dan: You know and since you have put it that way I guess not.
