Next: David Lawrence's Personal Netcast - 7/30/2005 >>
David Lawrence: No it is just alright. So what do you want to do? You wanted to take the station signal or the signal coming out of the studio that you produce the show in and put it online.
Patrick: Well I have noticed in some broadcast is actually broadcast a show into a chat room as well and we are not sure on the air that if you want to join them online you can and I can figure out how I can broadcast my own voice into the chat room but I have no idea how I can make user be able to hear that you are getting the calls.
David Lawrence: Right, first of what chat room are we talking about something created on AOL or something that*s independent or what.
Patrick: Paltalk.
David Lawrence: What was that? Paltalk or*
Patrick: Where you create your own chat room and admin people going into your room.
David Lawrence: Yeah here*s what I would do I wouldn*t try to broadcast into the chat room. What you want to do is make the chat room available on a webpage which you can easily do with Paltalk or Palwell or any of the other independent ones. In addition to that have a feed link that comes from whatever the radio station is feeding on the same page. This will invoke completely different parts of your browser and it doesn*t require that the chat room even be aware that there is an audio stream coming in. You know you can do a SHOUTcast stream that appears on the same page as a JavaScript, a java interface for a chat room and that you don*t even need to know about each other. So it*s not difficult to do at all. Whoever your engineer is at the radio station will be able to help you set this up be able to help you to capture the air signal in fact, hold on one second we will talk more about this, alright.
Patrick: Okay, well thanks.
David Lawrence: Alright this hours* Bookmark This again the theme is help, love that. So find out what we got Ms. Von Schtupp puts all of this together. So here we go. Alright it*s 8 minutes before the hour and my name is David Lawrence. We were talking with Patrick before we went to the break. And we were talking about taking a Radio Show that we will me producing and putting it on the web so people can listen to it. And also do a chat room at the same time and the question was originally framed as how do I feed audio into a chat room. I wouldn*t even go through that process. I wouldn*t use or involve the chat provider at all with the screen.
Patrick: Okay.
David Lawrence: What I would do is, I would build, first of all does the radio station itself have a Web stream and Online Audio stream?
Patrick: You know I am not really familiar with that I am not sure if they do or not.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
