John: Yeah.
David Lawrence: And so if you send me a piece of E-mail either at lawrence@aol.com, or david@onlinetonight.com I have an auto-responder that, I will send you back the list and where to get them, the URLs and all that. So here it is. For antivirus software and there is a difference between antivirus and anti-spyware software. Antivirus software and of this you only run one package. You may already have Norton that's fine. I prefer Panda Software's Titanium package because they add an extra layer of protection. They actually add a piece of software that runs constantly in the background of your machine that watches for virus like behavior. They used to say that antivirus software is only good as the viruses it knows about which meant that every computer was susceptible to viruses that were brand new. The cool thing about Panda and you can get this at www.pandachallenge.com. The cool thing about Panda is they have this Titanium software, this Titanium technology it*s called TruPrevent. And it basically sits there and monitors your machine for virus like things happening like opening up a port and sending out information or a bunch of process responding. You know anything that a virus would do to replicate itself send itself to other computers and so on. It sees that happening and says oops and shuts it down and then says do you want me to send a report to Panda, you may have a new form of a virus and so that they found a whole bunch of new viruses in the wild that way. So that's what I recommend there and they actually have a version that you can use standalone or a version that can be added on to other virus softwares where you already have virus software without the TruPrevent technology they have that add-ones. So that's pretty cool. And again that's at www.pandachallenge.com. Now as to anti-spyware this is preventing Adware and Spyware and Malware the pieces of software that get on your machine and copy your information down, maybe key stroke challenge you as popup ads all over the place even when you are not online, even when you are not doing things. It lets you know what software is on your machine that is surreptitiously putting this software on your machine and then gets rid of it. So there is three packages that I recommend. One of them is called Adaware and it*s sort of like Adware but with an A inside Adaware. The second package is called Spybot Search & Destroy again Spybot Search & Destroy and then the third one and this is and I need a piece of information from you here John. What version of the Windows operating system are you running?
John: 2000.
David Lawrence: 2000 okay. So 2000 and XP are the only versions of Windows that this third option will work with and that is Microsoft*s own Anti-SpyWare. Its called Windows AntiSpyware and if you go over to the Microsoft site they have got notes all over the site on and you can search for whatever but again if you send the E-mail I will send you back the direct link for it. It only works with 2K, Win2K and with Windows XP. And if you run all three of those together unlike antivirus software where you only run one piece of software you run all three of those together and they work like an interlocking chain. What one doesn't find another one will, what one does find another one might miss. So if you run all 3 of those, those have been tested together and they work the best. And again you want to keep them all updated they all have the ability to go out on the web and download new information, if you want to keep your antivirus and your AntiSpyware software updated but those are my recommendations. And please don't even write and say well what do you think about Spy Sweeper or what do you think about this other. If I felt you should use Spy Sweeper or anything else I would say so. The problem is most of those other options are worthless these days and can actually add to the problem. I mean they had found some AntiSpyware software that actually is spyware software and that's how I got on your machine.
John: Yeah.
David Lawrence: Alright I appreciate the call John.
John: Okay thanks.
David Lawrence: Thank you, back in a moment.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
