Debbie: Right, well before it did that though, when I hit a key and it started all over it said like Windows 98 but my computer is Windows XP, and it came that way. And it had like Master and Slave and then it had another message and then it went to the A prompt.

David Lawrence: And this was all white on black.

Debbie: Yeah.

David Lawrence: Okay so again this doesn*t mean that you have a worm or a virus it means that your computer was going through what*s called the POST system the Power On Self Test. And it was not to the point where it had loaded Windows yet. What happens when a computer starts up is that there are whole bunch of little baby steps and then boom Windows is available to you. You usually don*t even notice them. It bootstraps itself. Then it runs through this power on self test and then it loads Windows once it terms everything is fine. It never even got that far and whether it*s on Windows 98 or some you know some vestige or something on a hard drive somewhere I really wouldn*t know but it does sound like your hard drive has failed. And so that*s how you should be describing things to whoever you call to help you as opposed to I have got a worm, I have got a virus, I had this huge catastrophe. Just tell them your drive has failed.

Debbie: Ah okay.

David Lawrence: And see if that doesn*t change what the price might be. Now I would suggest you instead of having somebody come to your house because that*s more expensive that you simply bring the computer parts of your machine to either a CompUSA or Circuit City or a Best Buy some place that has certified technicians that can work on your machine. Or call the manufacturer of the machine and see if they have a local dealer that you can bring it to. It would be far less expensive than having someone come to your house, alright?

Debbie: Okay.

David Lawrence: Alright I appreciate the call. See if they can fix your drive, back in a moment.
