David Lawrence: Thank you so much for tuning into the show. My name is David Lawrence and it*s 7_ minutes past the hour. The name of show is Online Tonight. We talk about computers, online services, the Internet anything that happens to do with pop culture and technology, we deal with here on the show. Lots and lots and lots of phone calls your calls are welcomed 180039 Online 18003966546. All the lines are filled because we are under way and you just hang in there we will get some calls taking care of and get you some open lines. You can also pop me an E-mail. The E-mail address Lawrence@aol.com, you may also use that to get me an instant message if you want to and that screen name is Lawrence. Terrific instant message from Asmaofus79, dear David what is difference between these two systems and which one is better? I have your permission slip to get a new computer. Oh, very good. Thanks, I don't know how she got that but she does. I will be listening on WGN-AM 720 Margaret. So the two systems are Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Windows XP Professional is what we use in the studio for Windows XP because it*s more robust. It has some features on it that are good for workgroup environments. We have a lot of machines we have to manage all at once. There is also some requirements in terms of security, that some systems have that Windows XP Professional is very good for. Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition is a version of XP that is designed specifically for people who want to have TiVo or Replay like features on their computers. And it*s built in so when you buy a Windows XP Media Center Edition computer you have a TV receiving card built in, you have the ability to watch cable on your computer to record it, to a time shifted for later to save it, to burn it to DVD if you want to play it elsewhere. There are all kinds of really cool things you can do and in most home environments if I was given the choice between one or the other I would go for the Windows XP Media Center Edition. The have done a really good job on that and they paid attention to their work in the past with Web TV and with Ultimate which are the two brands that they had in that space. And they put a lot of that to work into the Media Center Edition. I find it to be one of Microsoft*s better products. Now that have been said you can do the same thing with the Windows Home, XP Home or XP Pro with an additional card from ATI or from somebody like that. So there is lots of options there for you but given the fact that you have permission slip and it didn*t say on here that you are in charge of a large IT workgroup at an executive installation with some business somewhere I would go with XP Media Center Edition but then that's just me because I covet that.

180039 Online is our telephone number 18003966546. Another instant message came in. Is there anybody who would use a NETGEAR Wireless PC card with Windows 98? Thank you in advance. Well only if the NETGEAR cards, software and drivers are built for Windows 98 and above at this point in time, we are beginning to see sort of the beginning of the end of support in many cases for Windows 98. Windows ME becomes the baseline which is unfortunate because there are an awful lot of people out there with Windows 98 machine. They did not upgrade to XP because of the demands that XP places on the hardware. You have to have some pretty decent gear to run XP with any sort of speed. And so the people that are just chucking along with 98 on their machine and enjoying life are finding that some manufacturers are coming out with things that aren*t compatible with 98 any longer but they are they are still not prevalent. They are there but you know and if the NETGEAR doesn*t say that drivers work with 98 and you can*t find anything on the NETGEAR site that tells you that that they can get drivers for 98 which I don't know why they would have on the site, but not include in the box. Then the answer is no, you can*t, it*s all based on the drivers. So that's the deal because PC Cards were around for a long time certainly before XP before, ME it*s just a matter of the drivers for that. 180039 Online is our telephone number 18003966546, Joe.

Joe: David.

David Lawrence: Yes Joe.
