Next: David Lawrence's Personal Netcast - 6/18/2005 >>
Patrick: Yeah the Michael Jackson one. I remember specifically it was like a 4, 3 or 4 stage virus where you know downloaded another Trojan and that Trojan opens up your computer and downloaded something else with the aim of owning the computer for someone to use in the future.
David Lawrence: Now owning has a particular meaning in the world of viruses and Trojan Horses.
Patrick: Yeah it means that someone else has taken over control of your computer other than the rightful owner.
David Lawrence: And that doesn*t mean you can't continue to use your computer. It just means they have you use of it whenever they feel like it?
Patrick: Yes exactly and usually the way it*s done you don*t notice it because they want to continue using it.
David Lawrence: Sure. Now I read somewhere that the estimates of people who have fallen for viruses like this and others that lead to Trojan Horses and Virus Payloads owning the computer, taking over the computer with backdoor controls is above. And you can correct me if I am wrong but above 50% of the Windows PC*s in existence. Is that correct?
Patrick: Yeah you are in the ballpark is what we can tell yeah and that*s pretty pathetic.
David Lawrence: I can't imagine it. I mean I am sitting here and I am going okay there have got to be you know purely scientific estimate of bazillion PCs in the world. So half of bazillion PCs are at the back in call of some group or mess of spammers and hackers to be able to set up Denial of Service Attacks, to be able to set up more waves of Spam, to be able to do Brute Force Computing, to try and figure out passwords. I mean this is just insane. Why are people not more up in arms about this? Do they just not know what*s happening?
Patrick: Yeah most people wouldn*t know by looking at their computer and using it that that is the case. Like you said this is not the, what I call the old days where some script-kid is trying to you know infect your computer and you know it, right. This is to do it in ________7.24 mode and there is a money motivation. There is actually some set up in Russia that will pay or you know that is all pay for each computer or they will take payment for each computer that they give you that, I think it*s 6 cents a piece you know for the spammers because you know spamming is illegal in United States. There go do you want to spam you are going to have to do it anonymously.
David Lawrence: So they are just blatant about it. They are blatant about offering a bounty for every computer that is compromised.
Patrick: Sure yeah.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
