ABC News Nightline Autism: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
By:
List Price: $14.95
Amazon Price: $14.95

Description
Jake and Andrew are quite similar in many ways -- both adored by their parents -- and both diagnosed with autism while they were in pre-school. Both Jake and Andrew received an expensive, intensive and to some, a controversial therapy known as Applied Behavioral Analysis or ABA. It's not a cure for autism. However, applied early, the intensive and highly-structured teaching of skills can work minor miracles and over a long period of time, can have a dramatic impact on learning skills and social interaction. ABC News correspondent John Donvan explores how this treatment is being hailed as one of the few known keys to unlock the mysterious doors of autism. Correspondent: John Donvan

Rape is common in the United States. But while there is no doubt that the woman is the rapist's first victim, she is not the only victim. Her man--a husband, a boyfriend, is often a victim too. There is guilt, a need to lash out, frustration at not being able to make everything right again. ABC News looks at couples trying to survive, trying to find what psychologists call a 'new normal.' The old normal, the life before the rape, is gone. The new normal will include the scars of the assault, it will include the fear and the distrust, the revulsion, the anger. But life can't be just those things, for that would be no life at all.

ABC News Nightline The Fight over the Enola Gay
By:

The idea must have seemed pretty straightforward. Design an exhibition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, display the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped that first bomb, set out pictures and artifacts and documents from the time, and give life to a 50 year old moment in history. The devil, as they say, was in the details. As soon as the Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian released the 500 page script for the exhibition, critics charged the project turned history on its head. The Japanese became the victims, the Americans the aggressors. Americans should feel bad, not good, about ending the war with the bomb. When veterans' groups and members of Congress went on the attack, the Smithsonian retreated. The script was rewritten, then rewritten again and again. ABC News spoke with two people at the center of the debate.

ABC News correspondent David Wright and his team traveled the length of Darfur, which is the size of Texas in a country that is the largest in Africa. At least 200 people a day are dying in the refugee camps of Darfur, and yet the refugees keep on coming. And while the relief organizations are doing all they can to help them - many parts of Darfur simply cannot be served because the conflict is raging and those areas cannot be safely reached. Nightline examines the crisis that has been identified, by many as nothing short of genocide and explains the political, strategic and logistical obstacles that stand in the way of solving this man-made disaster.

Koppel series shows changes in China
NEW YORK (AP) ? The image of Ted Koppel interviewing world leaders is so ingrained that it feels odd to see him wearing a hardhat for a nervous trip into a Chinese coal mine, or sitting in a Chongqing karaoke bar where teenage girls are hired to ?entertain? male customers. Good thing he did, since the field work is what makes his four-part Discovery Channel series, ?The People?s Republic of Capitalism,? so valuable. It premieres 10 p.m. Wednesday, with three other installments at the same • One more, then I'm off to bed.
Yes, I'm trying to catch up...hence the flood of posts today. In case anyone missed it, I talked about the VCDL picnic a few weeks ago, which happened right before I soared off to beautiful Washington State. I also mentioned that it was on ABC Nightline. Here's a link to the coverage. Of course, in addition to the reference to the "dispute over whether guns prevent, or cause violence" that I mentioned before, they couldn't resist the wild west references...but overall, I think they handled th • Idaho wolf weekly news.
