David Lawrence: Alright its 7 minutes past the hour thanks so much for tuning into this show. My name is David Lawrence the name of the show is Online Tonight and this is the radio show where we talk about technology and pop culture and entertainment and things that you have sitting on your desk, in your laptop bag and in your car, your cell phone your PDA. You are talking about podcasting and we talk about pop-up ads and we talk about websites and search engines and Macintosh and PC*s, Windows, Mac OS X anything that has to do with technology and I am particularly partial to one page as my home page on my browsers and that is the perfectly coordinated and tweak over the years setup that I have on www.my.yahoo.com and I did not watch this show last night but right there at the top of www.my.yahoo.com I have just so I can keep my figures on the pulse of what*s going on the most E-mailed stories on yahoo news. I know even put the top stories at the top of the page because the top stories often are multiple variations of the same theme you know. The government is horrible you know there is worldwide crime and you know there is disasters going on which I already know but to know that the number one most E-mailed story back and forth between all these users of yahoo. Is the story that was revealed last night on ABC*s 20/20 that the winner of American Idol Fantasia Barrino is functionally illiterate. Those are the kinds of stories that help me do a great radio show. I mean to think that someone can get by in the world today not only not knowing how to use technology, not knowing how to use a computer, not knowing how to program a cell phone, not knowing how to read a complicated schedule on an airport. But to not even be able to read and write with hand tools not to be able to read her child it is shocking to me. How people can get through life without having these basic skills and it is embarrassing for those people to do so. And I was thinking to myself you know every Saturday night on the show we get calls from people who hook their phones under their, you know shoulder straps and probably standup and say I am computer illiterate. And I don*t know what*s going on with my computer but I just though I would call you and have you tell me. And it*s kind of like you know would you read this book to me. I don*t what*s going on but would you please help me. Just tell me what*s happening so I can fix things. And hopefully what we do with this show and I have over the years done PSA*s for the American library association, the American reading council the teachers associations in various states to fight illiteracy. And one of the things I have always
