Bob: Yeah but it doesn*t do that all the time it just does that sometimes.

David Lawrence: I understand I understand I am just trying to sort of get the lay of the land here. Now if its doing that and its not clear to you what*s going on then that could be anything from a virus to a piece of Adware to a memory leak program that isn*t programmed very well and you know has malfunction. With XP the nice thing is that the memory is protected and you should be able to just use Ctrl+Alt+Delete and end out of that particular.

Bob: Then it doesn*t that doesn*t do it all the time. I use to click Ctrl+Alt+Delete all day long and the Task Manager will come up and then I hit, End Now and nothing happens. Eventually I have been you know just freeze and I won*t get anything and I will have to go down to the button to be just turn it off manually the whole thing. I hold the start button to end.

David Lawrence: Right so this is a sleuthing thing. This is the kind of thing that you want to be sort of sleuth like about and that is to try and isolate what program is doing this. I don*t think it*s a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue it would a lot more pervasive. But at the same time figuring out which one it is, is going to be interesting. What I would ask you to do is try to isolate when its most likely to happen. Does it happen like after the machine is been on for an hour or so?

Bob: Yeah.

David Lawrence: So that could be a heave related thing you know I mean a lot of times what happens people*s machines tend to well first of all it depends on where they are sitting, what*s around it? If the tower is built in one of those convenient but very dumb cubbyholes where they will put in office furniture from O'Sullivan, you don*t ever want to put your tower inside a box that is designed to barely hold it and expect that it would get the kind of circulation it needs to keep the insides cool.

Bob: And mine is on the floor underneath my desk.

David Lawrence: Right so is it against the wall?

Bob: No.

David Lawrence: Okay so plenty of room around it, right?

Bob: Yeah on the back side of it is open you know so it is because it can circulate the air.

David Lawrence: Meaning what?

Bob: Meaning that the back is not budded up against the channel of the desk.

David Lawrence: Got you okay and have you like blown dust out of it recently just to be sure.
