Kale: Excellent, excellent.

David Lawrence: How can I help you?

Kale: Well today, I downloaded and installed Microsoft Desktop Index Search program and it has been searching on my laptop*s hard drive for approximately 6 hours.

David Lawrence: It*s been indexing it.

Kale: Yes, it*s been indexing.

David Lawrence: Right and that makes sense. How big is the hard drive?

Kale: It*s a 60 gig hard drive and I have got about 18 gig used.

David Lawrence: There you go. Yeah what it*s doing is it*s not only, you have it set to not only scan file names and types but you also have it set to scan content, right?

Kale: Correct, E-mail and text files.

David Lawrence: So that*s the deal, I mean the fact is that every individual--, what do you use for your E-mail, Outlook Express?

Kale: Outlook Express, yes.

David Lawrence: So every individual E-mail in that corpus, in that body of E-mail all the E-mails that you have are going to be individually indexed and all the text lines in there. All the little strings in there are going to be indexed and on larger hard drives much like backups, indexing the first time around, takes a long time. And then what happens is each day or however, whatever periodicity you have set on the search and on the indexing, it will take less time because it will only index the stuff that*s changed.

Kale: Okay, very good.

David Lawrence: Is that make sense?

Kale: Yes it does.
