This hours Geek speak is DNS and it stands for the Domain Name System. This is the system that stores information about your computer your hosts your domains and then ties the two together. If your IP address is what*s called the dotted quad you have seen this before 225.44.6.185. Those are the numerical addresses. That*s the 123 and 123 NE Street USA, okay. What the DNS system does is it takes that IP address and keeps track of all of them and to what domain they are assigned. There are domains that their IP addresses that are reserved only for private computers behind routers they are called the local IP range 10.10.10 is one of them 198.160.1 through 255 is another you will see those most of the time or 192.168.1. Those are assigned for behind routers lots and lots of computers have those very same IP addresses but the router itself has an IP address that*s different. So that*s how those things are done but the domain name system is that great piece of creation that keeps track of all the dotted quads and all the domain names that they relate to and keeps them all straight on the internet which is why your ISP has to make sure that IP addresses are assigned to you when you log on and to your web addresses when you create websites and what not. So that*s it domain name system that is this hours Geek Speak. You will see that from time to time.
